Everyone’s getting excited that this is the last day of the year. Clean slate, blank page, all that. But there’s a pressure in it isn’t there?

Hidden or not, the end of the year brings a pressure to change, to do better, a pressure to set goals and achieve, pressure to admit what we didn’t achieve last year.

We can blame it on the year that was, and say that the next year will be better. But the truth is, we did the best we could with what we had. We need to start giving ourselves credit for that instead of blaming something or blaming ourselves.

Let’s take the pressure off.

Here’s a fact – this moment, right now, is where you are in space and time. Whether your thoughts are here, or in the past, or in the future, the physical aspect of you is right here and now. Each new moment that you experience is a blank page, a new slate. Each moment we are in is an opportunity to be present with ourselves, to be present to love.

That’s what I dream of for next year- more people having an awareness of just this. If we can be present to ourselves with love, we then have more to offer to others. I believe if there were more people present in the moment more often, more hearts would open to beauty and love and the world would be a better place.

Marianne Williamson quotes the course in miracles saying “only love exists: nothing real can be threatened and nothing unreal exists” meaning love is all there is when you come from love. Fear cannot tolerate love and it disappears.

Esther Hicks says “a happy life is just a string of happy moments”. Most of us spend our moments living in the past or the future, and are not really here in this moment. Which brings me back to the pressure we put on ourselves around the New Year: trying to plan or review a whole year at once can be overwhelming.

There is beauty in thinking this way. Each new moment becomes an opportunity. It doesn’t have to be New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, it could be the 15th of February or the 5th of April, just by being present in the moment you can be fully present to yourself. Any moment of any day can be just as special, just as important, if you let it.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying don’t set goals or make plans. That’s very important, action is required. But it doesn’t all have to be today, and it doesn’t all have to be perfect. Ahh – did you feel that pressure release? Much better!

Your life’s journey grows and changes naturally with time. By being in the moment you can gain awareness of what is working and what isn’t and change trajectory as needed. Why not set and review your goals every month? Baby steps are great, achievable and can even be fun.

Give yourself permission to accept who you are and where you are right now. Above all else, allow yourself to have your happy life now, in this moment. Why wait?

Wishing you a year filled with strings of moments of presence, love and joy.
